91²Ö¿âdent Gavin Woodward Selected For International Vision Science Summer School
Fourth-year 91²Ö¿âdent Gavin Woodward was one of twenty students from around the world selected to attend the CVR-VISTA Vision Science Summer School at York University.
The week-long exclusive program brings students from various academic backgrounds together to learn about vision and gain exposure to vision research through lectures, lab tours, networking opportunities, and research activities.
"During the summer school, I worked alongside students from top universities and research labs, which is a testament to the strong Psychology department at 91²Ö¿â," said Woodward.
Woodward came to 91²Ö¿â to study psychology and was drawn to the program's interdisciplinary approach. It was here he found his passion for experimental psychology and cognitive neuroscience, which he hopes to continue exploring.
"I intend to pursue graduate studies in perception, so the opportunity to learn from key vision scientists, to see such a wide range of research facilities, and to network with professors and students alike was an incredible opportunity," he added.
Attending the Vision Science Summer School gave Woodward new perspective and further demonstrated the benefits of drawing on knowledge from multiple disciplines in his studies.
"Vision science is uniquely positioned at the intersection of many disciplines and promotes interdisciplinary collaboration," said Woodward.
"I've become more comfortable with research outside of psychology and neuroscience. This has already manifested in my newfound interest in mathematical models of the brain and behaviour."
